Red McClung holds both an MA in English Literature, and an MFA in Fiction, from NC State University. Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Red writes Southern fiction that explores queerness, bodily autonomy, and criminalized economies. Their debut novel, Sourjaw, is about the opioid epidemic in small town North Carolina. Red attended the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference in 2025, and was a scholarship recipient for the Community of Writers in 2026.
