Bookstores of the Triangle Part 7: Nice Price Books & Records

Bookstores of the Triangle is a blog series where Redbud highlights bookstores in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, Morrisville, Cary, Pittsboro, Hillsborough, Carrboro, and surrounding environs. Do you have a bookstore you think we should visit? Let us know!

Nice Price Books & Records is one of those shops on Hillsborough Street that recalls a time when, we’ve heard, this artery was all punk coffeeshops and indie businesses, rather than…what it is now. Nice Price is a used record, CD, and bookshop located in the same block as Cup A Joe. Inside, you’ll find plenty of decorative curios (mannequins! action figures!) plus lots of used books of all sort (classic realist fiction, pulpy SFF, esoteric books on religion and mythology) and, of course, records and CDs galore. Like Reader’s Corner down the street, Nice Price also buys books and other media, so if you have some no-longer-needed music or books, consider taking them in here.

Another admirable feature of Nice Price? They have a 25 cent book section in the back, all proceeds from which go to the NC Women’s Prison Book Project.

Also, we’re excited that Nice Price has an outpost in So&So Books, meaning that they’re our co-tenants! At this satellite locale, you can pick up records by awesome bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Mountain Goats (high school Emily is swooning); Nice Price also co-runs So&So’s monthly 33 1/3 book club, and word on the street is that they might do film screenings and/or listen-alongs at the bookstore in the future.

So! Nice Price: great community members, awesome co-tenants, noble bastion of cool culture on Hillsborough. We recommend you stop by and see them!
