Bookstores of the Triangle is a blog series where Redbud highlights bookstores in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, Morrisville, Cary, Pittsboro, Hillsborough, Carrboro, and surrounding environs. Do you have a bookstore you think we should visit? Let us know!

We’ve been remiss about our Bookstores of the Triangle adventures of late, what with all the excitement about teaching in person and the Coppice Prize and all that good stuff, but yesterday, we found time to visit a brand-new bookstore in Durham: Rofhiwa Book Cafe on Driver Street in Old East Durham.

Rofhiwa is a Black-owned coffeeshop and bookstore (their window decal declares BLACK COFFEE, BLACK BOOKS) that opened its doors last week, although they’ve been selling online for longer than that. The store promises to be a wonderful gathering place and shopping locale: inside, visitors will find novels (Emily picked up a copy of Helen Oyeyemi’s White is for Witching), nonfiction, children’s books, a tasty coffee menu, and some VERY aesthetically pleasing couches. Next time you’re in the area, we highly recommend stopping by!
