memoir I

Instructor: Emily Cataneo

Dates: Begins Monday, October 7, 2019 and runs every Monday for six weeks.

Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: $335 for new students; $300 for returning students

Level: Beginner and above

Description: Have you ever wanted to tell your own story, but been unsure where to start? Do you long to write about your own life, but aren’t sure how to approach it? Through a series of writing exercises, discussions, readings, and workshops, this class will teach you how to tell true stories about yourself, your loved ones, and your experiences.

Memoir II/creative nonfiction

Dates: Begins Thursday, October 17, 2019 and runs every Thursday for six weeks.

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Cost: $335 for new students; $300 for returning students

Level: Intermediate and above

8 seats max

Location: HQ Raleigh Warehouse District, 310 St. Harrington St., Raleigh

Description: This class is intended for students who have either taken our introductory memoir course or other memoir classes in the past. This intermediate class will both deepen students’ understanding of the memoir genre and allow them to explore other types of creative nonfiction, including reported essays and profiles. Craft talks will include activities on research, interviewing, integrating current events and the outside world into your personal story. Students will be expected to write and workshop one essay or piece every two weeks, with a total of three at the end of the course.
