Location: Chapel Hill (private residence on Brookview Drive; address will be shared with workshop participants)

Description: This is a craft and workshop hybrid class where you’ll learn the fundamentals of fiction, including character, plot, setting, and theme, as well as workshop your work with classmates and with the instructor. You will be expected to write at least one short story during the course of the class. This course is designed for students with little to no workshopping experience, although intermediate students are welcome too.

Dates: Begins Thursday, August 22, 2019 and runs every Thursday for six weeks.

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Location: Raleigh

Description: Do you love spaceships, dragons, and/or ghosts in your fiction? This six-week course is designed for writers who are particularly interested in writing science fiction and fantasy. Over the course of these six weeks, we’ll talk about the fundamentals of plotting these fiction genres; how to employ or avoid tropes and clichés; the current state of the science fiction and fantasy publishing industry; and more. We’ll also read, write, and share student work in class. Beginner and intermediate students welcome.
